October 15, 2012--Monastery Moraca

Today we took off to see the Moraca Monastery up in the mountains.

The rain and the clouds added to the adventure.  Can you see the slight rainbow near the ground?

 

We drive through many tunnels in the rocky Montenegrin mountains.  Water runs through the rock and onto our car in the tunnel.  .  .  an odd sensation of random splashes from above.

 

The Moraca Gorge is filling up.

 

 

We stopped to move a stump that slid onto the road.  It took two to move the stump and two to roll that rock beside it off the road.

 

 

Moraca Monastery .  .  .  as usual, you cannot take pictures inside, but if you google "Monastery Moraca," you can click on images for some interior views.  Among the many images of saints, the monk pointed out the apostles to us.  We also saw some small scenes of the life of Mary.

 

 

This war memorial has an Orthodox cross on the left column and a Communist insignia on the right column.  .  .an interesting tribute to two opposing worlds.
