November 20-22, 2012--Thanksgiving

The American Corner (sponsored by the American Embassy) has American activities for all ages.  They asked me to do a class for the children.  I chose "Thanksgiving."  Twelve elementary age chidren came.  Seven of the children (3 families) have lived in America and have celebrated Thanksgiving.

We talked about a soft heart vs. a hard heart (a tiny hard black heart is in my other hand).  When one leper out of ten thanked Jesus for healing him, he was also healed on the inside.  Being thankful gives us a soft heart.  We talked about the first Thanksgiving and wrote on turkey feathers three things we are thankful for.

Most children were thankful for their family.  Some were thankful for animals. Two were thankful for their education.  One was thankful for "my life."  And one was thankful for "me."  We had a fun hour together.

Wednesday we went to Albania for a Mission Thanksgiving.  Instead of "over the river and through the woods," it was "over the border and through the Albanian decor."  Albania was preparing for its Centennial on Nov. 28, 29, 2012.

Craig prepared the stuffing for the 40 Young Adult Missionaries and the 20 Senior Missionaries.

Office Missionary Sister Eliason (blue top) organized the meal.

It took two plates to get a full Thanksgiving meal (tiny plates--best we could do).  After dinner we had a talent show.

Elder Boydell from Great Britain was a three-legged man.

One gal taught her District Tahitian dancing.

The girls were good!  The boys were funny but did well also.

Elder Roberts did a drum number on his blue waste basket.  Then Elder Anderson (former gymnast, cheer leader, strong) on the left made a mistake, threw down his stick and wanted to fight.

Elder Knaras uses his black belt skills to bring him under control.  (very clever use of everyone's talents)

A District doing an exercise routine.  The one on the couch is ready to go home.  One is thinking about his girl friend.  One is a sports nut.

Sister Casady is eating chocolate as she exercises.

Missionary from Albania being a fussy Albanian woman.

Missionaries that have moved from the Adriatic North Mission to the Adriatic South Mission:  Elder Schouten (who will end up spending an entire year of his mission in Montenegro), Elder Adams (was in Macedonia and is now an Assistant to the President), and Elder Gibson (recently moved down from the North and is in Macedonia.)  . . .a very entertaining Thanksgiving.

  1. Glad that you didn't have to find a turkey to cook on your own. What a fun way to spent a great American holiday.

Hope you are both doing well. Love and miss you!
