June 3-6, 2013--Tami in Dubrovnik

This week we traveled to Dubrovnik, Croatia to see Craig's sister Tami.  Tami is attending an International Ski Federation Conference.

Tami, Dave, Nancy
Tami is a timer for ski racing at World Cup events and at the Olympics.  Her colleague, Dave, is in charge of the Canadian Ski Team.

This is Old Town Dubrovnik.  You need to see the walls and the sea port to appreciate the perspective of the pictures we took.

Having lunch at the sea port . . .

Now we are taking a walk on the walls that surround Old Town.
The sea port . . .

The Dubrovnik Cathedral . . .

The flag is proof that we reached the top tower.

Tami and Craig at the top. . .

Looking down at a garden . . .

The Adriatic Sea . . .

Back on the ground in the Old Town . . .

The Rector's Palace with its Gothic architecture . . .

The Dubrovnik Cathedral was built in the beginning of the 1700's.  Recently, archaeologists found remnants of a church beneath it that dates to the 500's.  This shows the age of the city.

The shopping is fun with nautical crafts and many jewelry shops.

Too bad I couldn't fit 18 of these monkeys in my suitcases for my grandchildren.

Another day we took a boat to another island.  Say "good-by" to the walls.

We traveled an hour to the island of Lopud.  The shops were fun.  On the way back the choppy waters gave us a Disneyland ride.

One evening we had dinner on top of the wall at the 360 Restaurant.

One of Tami's dishes . . .

I ordered "Jerusalem Hey Hay."  It had two dishes stacked on each other.  The top is lamb cooked in artichoke and herb seasonings.

The bottom dish had lamb cooked in hay.  The hay flavors the lamb, but you are not supposed to eat the hay.

Lights above us . . .

As we are leaving dinner, we saw the stain glass of the Church of St. Blaise.  The church was built in 1715.  St. Blaise is the saint of the city of Dubrovnik.  There is something about old historical sites that make you stop and contemplate your life.

  2. I love it. So beautiful. That Adriatic Sea would be hard to leave, it is so gorgeous. And how amazing to see those old sites. So incredible. And, last of all, I love that you wanted to bring home 18 sock monkeys! They are pretty cute. But the fact that you are always thinking of the kids is the best part of that little comment!
