August 21,22, 2012--Kruje, Albania

Do you know who this is?

It is George W. Bush.  He is the only U.S. President to visit Albania.  Albanians love the United States for helping them end their cold war isolation.  President Bush visited Kruje, Albania on June 10, 2007.  They put this statue up on July 6, 2011.

We are heading up the hill to see the fortress where the famous military leader Skenderbej defeated the Ottoman Empire in Albania.

The museum for Skenderbej.

Skenderbej defeated the Turks in the 1400's.  After his death they made a partial return.  They were finally extinguished in the early 1900's.

Skenderbej is the #1 national hero of Albania.

This is the Skenderbej's fortress from the 1400's.

As you look over this fortress wall into the rustic city, you can see a pristine soccer field in the middle of town.

The souvenir shops . . .

 . . .weaving an authentic Albanian design . . .
Now it is onto Durres, Albania for our Zone Conference.

. . .many new faces.  Transfers keep it all fresh.

  1. What an interesting cultural experience this trip looks to have been. That's a fine group of missionaries there. I noticed that you and Nanc didn't get into the photo - it would have been fun to see you in with the group. I noticed one older sister right in the front - is she serving as a proselyting missionary or service missionary? I'm assuming that this group of emissaries are serving in several different areas. What countries do they currently cover?

Hope all is well with you - fall fishing started up this week, so Les has been very busy "managing" things here. Love you both! Have a great weekend! Sherrie

I think he'll be appreciated by more Americans too as time goes on.
Looks like a fun vacation in between your busy mission things!!
