August 6, 2012--Kolasin and Biogradska Lake

It was "frying pan" hot today.  That means that the minute you are outside, you feel like you are cooking in a fry pan.  It was 108 degrees.  We took off for the mountains.

We stopped in Kolasin, a popular mountain resort.  It is also a military center for Montenegro.  This is a statue of victims of facist terrorists.

Kolasin was heavily bombed during WWII, so it has lost some of its quaintness.  Still, it has nice tourist facilities.

Then we headed for Biogradska Lake in Biogradska Gora National Park.  We hiked around the lake in lush green overgrowth like we enjoy at Mt.Rainier at home.

The difference is that this is a deciduous forest.

Still, it has green undergrowth, aging trees, and lots of shade.

We came across some naturalist signs like this one . . .

talking about this tree.  Craig imediately changed into his "nature guide mode" telling the missionaries about the forest and grilling them with questions like he used to do with his kids.  I thought, "Well, we are giving them the full Mt. Rainier experience."

We are looking at small fish in the pristine lake.

 . . . an 18 inch trout . . .
We came home and headed for the air conditioning.  We were able to escape most of the heat for one day.

  2. Once the naturalist - always a naturalist OR is it once a professor always a professor. I'll bet that the missionaries absolutely loved that experience with the two of you. Fun to learn more about the wonders of the earth and how much it means for each of us and our relationship with our creator.

Missing you two alot! We went to Jim Bateman's funeral and came back home the long way, just to Naches, past Rimrock Lake, onto Packwood, Randle and then down and around the south and east side of St. Helens. We actually spent quite a bit of time at the Windy Ridge site - pretty interesting and spectacular to see. If you two haven't made that trip, the next time you come visit us you should take that route if it's the right time of year. It was about 225 miles, but well worth it.

Pray that you are both well, and finding lots of opportunities for service.

    Love you! Sherrie
