May 28, 29, 2013--the Maughans

After visiting three locations in Serbia to work on contracts for water projects, Dave and Ann Maughan came to Montenegro for a visit.

Elder Maughan gave Elder Brown advice on our water project for Nik's village.  We skyped with the Water Specialist Reed Petersen to ask more questions.

The next morning we took a day off together.
Often when we head to the coast, I want to stop to look at the olive trees.  Today we stopped.

When the Petersens were here, Elder Petersen told me that the olive trees looked like the Holy Land as they are terraced with rock walls.

. . . the Maughans . . .

. . . the Browns . . .

When an olive tree is 200 years old, the trunk disappears.

A shoot develops at the base of the trunk which eventually grows into a new tree.

That is why it is called an immortal tree.

Elder Maughan found this olive.
(a little old and shriveled)

Each one has a story.

. . . Kotor Old Town . . .

. . . looking at Kotor Bay . . . Elder Maughan had a commercial fishing business with his brother in Alaska for about 8 years.

. . . lush growth around a restaurant in Budva . . . The Maughans want to grow a grape vine roof like this when they get home.

Step back and you can see the towering palm trees.

Step close and you can see the flowers.

Elder Brown feeding the fish pieces of his pizza crust.

Sister Maughan testing the water on the Budva beach.

. . . goats on the way home . . .

. . . showing the Maughans the Orthodox Church in Podgorica. . .
The concrete steps are new.

This carving on the church shows the national instrument of Montenegro.  It is a gusle with one string tied to a tuning peg at the top.
. . . a fun visit from the Maughans. . .
