Nancy, Rada (translator), Juliana, Natasa
I met Natasa at a luncheon for the International Women's Club of Montenegro. I found out that she is an ophthamalogist that does eye surgeries on babies. I told her that our Church does vision projects and asked if she had needs.
So, here we are many months later.
Dr. Danjela (ophthamalogist over eye surgeries for adults), Rada (translator), Sister Brown, Sister and Dr. Lyman, and Dr. Natasa (ophthamalogist over eye surgeries for babies)
Dr. Natasa is explaining to Dr. Lyman that without certain medical equipment, she has to send babies to Belgrade for some eye surgeries. Belgrade is 250 miles away, but it is an eight hour drive winding through the mountains. It is very expensive for the families.
Dr. Lyman is checking an old piece of equipment.
This slit lamp does not work well. Their 1975 model works better than this newer one.
On Day 2 we visited Dr. Nada (center) in the Kotor Clinic. Dr. Nada is not equipped to do eye surgeries in Kotor. She sends them all to Podgorica. Dr. Lyman is asking how many she sends each month.
. . .having refreshments in Kotor . . .
We stopped to show the Lymans Old Town Kotor.
This Orthodox Church was built in 1155.
. . .Mary holding Jesus (the first coming of Christ)
. . . the Second Coming of Christ . . .
This fresco was hidden behind a closet. It was the only fresco that wasn't destroyed by conquerors of Kotor. The painting was colored by natural plants and minerals in the area.
Can you see the moon barely above the wall of Kotor Fortress? This was taken at noon.
After Kotor we went to see Natasa's summer home in Perast on the Gulf of Kotor.
Natasa's husband is restoring this home that was originally built in 1621. The first floor will be rented out to a restaurant owner. The second floor will be Natasa's home. The third floor is owned by someone else.
This is a small summer home that Natasa's husband built. They stay here while he works on the larger home.
On Day 3 (no pictures) we went to Niksic and visited with two ophthamalogists there. We took the Lymans up the mountain to see Ostrog Monastery.
Now the sorting begins. L.D.S. Charities can provide new equipment, teach how to repair broken equipment, and/or train ophthamalogists in improved procedures. . .to be continued.
